Owen Pick – The Story of Resilience
An award-winning short film celebrating determination, identity, and the pursuit of greatness.
The Brief
This project set out to tell the extraordinary story of Owen Pick —
an ex-frontline soldier who turned unimaginable loss into purpose. After losing part of his leg while serving with the 1st Royal Anglian Regiment in Afghanistan, Owen discovered a new passion for snowboarding, eventually becoming a World Champion and Paralympic athlete.
Our goal was to create a cinematic short film that honoured his resilience while inspiring others to reimagine what’s possible.

The Challenge
Telling Owen’s story authentically meant finding the balance between emotional truth and visual power.
We wanted to capture his journey without sentimentality — to show not only the impact of his injury, but the determination and strength that define him today.
The film needed to merge intimate storytelling with dynamic sports cinematography.
The Approach
We approached the story with the same intensity and focus Owen brings to his sport.
Through storytelling, we built a narrative arc that moves from trauma to triumph — guided by Owen’s own words and voice.
Cinematically, we paired natural light and textured close-ups.
Sound and music played a crucial role in the emotional rhythm of the film — Jeff Moberg’s score and design layered subtle tension with moments of weightless release, while colourist Cam Sander gave the grade a cold, contrasty edge to reflect both grit and clarity.
The Result
The finished short film resonated widely — winning an RTS Award, earning AOP Finalist recognition, and being shared across creative and sports communities as a story of resilience, discipline, and hope.
More importantly, it gave audiences an honest, human portrait of an athlete who refuses to be defined by limits — inspiring others to confront adversity with the same fire.
